Happy New Year From All At Lucinda Russell Racing

Happy New Year from everyone at Lucinda Russell Racing, and let us hope that 2021 does not have the surprises of 2020.

The national lockdown has been applied again but we are so fortunate to be able to continue racing, adhering to the strict guidelines set up by the BHA. Sadly owners will not be able to attend, but at least the horses can continue to compete and the industry can continue, albeit with more stringent hygiene and movement rules.

We had a couple of good runs at Musselburgh on New Year's day, including A Ladies Milan who returned to form with a third in the three mile hurdle, Shanroe Street who was fourth over fences, staying on having been outpaced, and Red Missile who hurdled efficiently and stayed on looking as if a longer trip will suit him in time.

Ice is always a problem for the yard and Bradley and Davy have worked hard to keep the gallops open, with plenty of salt being used to defrost the road. The horses have been working away and the change to more routine work has been good for many of them,

We have a runner at Wolverhampton this afternoon as Ballyare teams up with Paul Mulrennan again in the sprint. If things go his way and the gaps open he copuld follow up his win there before Christmas.

Our next runners after today will be at Musselburgh, frost permitting, and then Big River will be on his way to Wales again to run in the rescheduled Welsh National.

Happy New Year Hopefully this winter blast will pass over soon fir a week at least though the French model suggests N winds returning about the 21st ... Al Boum Photo race been talked about in great detail particularly the times and the distance .. Personally times don’t matter . We had handicapper highlighting Frodon did a slower time Kempton than a novice earlier on the card , So What ? ..Frodon is superior , end of ... The distance of a race however changes things . If a 2m 6f race is nearer to 3miles then that explains why these same handicappers who have been underestimating Irish horses since the mid noughties have got it wrong at the expense of U.K. trainers , owners ... How many more courses does this happen at . I suspect Downpatrick’s 2m is further than Perth’s 2m . I don’t want to get into who said what but it does raise questions and it has far reaching consequences... Planning on bringing a horse to peak at Perth comes with risks the main one being will I be running against an Irish horse having his 1st or 2nd handicap run on the day ? . No one is saying Irish trainers are doing wrong but the system itself with those with the Power leaning towards Times far too much and with many Irish races being run over a furlong or more further than advertised then of course they will appear to be slowcoaches when in fact they are not .. Here hoping 2021 does see the BHA open their eyes and not just when it comes to handicapping horses , there are many other issues too which I would love to talk about with you over a drink but I can’t for covid reasons ..
